Our Story

A Family Legacy Built on Ingenuity, Innovation & American Craftsmanship

At EnSenTech (Environmentally Sensitive Technology), our story is about more than gravel pumping and material placement. It's a story of family, determination, and three generations dedicated to developing specialized equipment that accomplishes what traditional machinery cannot.

For over 30 years, we've proudly operated as a family-owned business, carrying forward a legacy of innovation that began more than six decades ago. From the original machine developed by our founder's grandfather to the advanced pneumatic conveying systems we manufacture and operate today, our history is deeply rooted in engineering, problem-solving, and an unwavering commitment to doing things differently.

What makes EnSenTech unique is that we don't simply operate specialized machinery. Our family helped pioneer the technology, built the equipment, and spent generations refining the systems that continue to define our business today.

That foundation of knowledge, craftsmanship, and innovation allows us to provide precision gravel pumping, aggregate placement, and environmentally responsible material transportation services throughout Tacoma and Washington State.

The Invention That Started It All

Where It All Began: An Innovative Vision in the 1960s

Our family's journey began in the 1960s when Michael's grandfather saw an opportunity in technology that others had overlooked. Drawing inspiration from discarded NASA technology, he envisioned a new way to transport abrasive materials such as gravel, sand, and aggregate through specialized pneumatic conveying systems.

At a time when conventional construction methods relied heavily on manual labor, heavy machinery, and limited-access equipment, he set out to develop something entirely different.

Through ingenuity, experimentation, and determination, he engineered a machine capable of using controlled airflow to move bulk materials through piping systems and deliver them precisely where they were needed.

This innovative approach opened the door to applications that previously presented significant logistical challenges. Materials could now be transported across long distances, elevated to difficult locations, and delivered into confined spaces without relying entirely on traditional construction machinery.

What began as one man's innovative idea ultimately became the foundation of EnSenTech's specialized technology and a lasting family legacy.

We Don't Just Operate the Technology — We Build It

Three Generations of Building & Perfecting Our Equipment

One of the defining characteristics of EnSenTech is our family's direct involvement in developing and manufacturing the equipment we use.

Unlike contractors who rely exclusively on commercially available machinery, our specialized pneumatic conveying systems are rooted in technology originally engineered within our own family.

Following the initial invention in the 1960s, the next generation continued building upon that foundation. Through years of hands-on experience, mechanical improvements, and real-world applications, the family's equipment evolved to meet increasingly complex material transportation demands.

Each generation contributed its own knowledge, craftsmanship, and understanding of how to make these systems more effective, dependable, and versatile.

Our specialized equipment utilizes low-pressure pneumatic conveying and laminar-flow technology, allowing us to transport gravel, sand, drain rock, topsoil, and other bulk materials with remarkable precision.

Because our family understands the equipment from the inside out, we bring a level of specialized knowledge that extends beyond simply operating a machine. We understand the engineering, mechanical processes, material characteristics, and operational requirements that make challenging projects possible.

Today, our custom-built conveying systems are capable of transporting materials up to 300 feet horizontally and over 100 feet vertically, reaching locations through openings as small as four inches.

Proudly Led by the Third Generation

Carrying the Family Legacy Forward

Today, EnSenTech is led by Michael, the third generation of his family to dedicate himself to the specialized equipment and technology that started it all.

Following in the footsteps of his late father and grandfather, Michael continues their legacy with a deep appreciation for the innovation, hard work, and craftsmanship that built the business.

Growing from a family tradition of building and refining specialized machinery, EnSenTech represents more than a profession. It represents generations of knowledge, determination, and pride in creating something truly unique.

The lessons passed down through the family remain fundamental to how we operate today: understand the equipment, respect the work, solve problems creatively, and never stop looking for ways to improve.

While the generations before us helped establish the foundation of our company, we remain committed to preserving their vision and advancing the technology they worked so hard to develop.

Every project we complete is another opportunity to carry that tradition forward.

Going Where Traditional Equipment Cannot

Our Specialization: Solving the Most Challenging Material Placement Problems

Over the decades, EnSenTech has developed an exceptional understanding of specialized gravel pumping and pneumatic material transportation.

Our expertise extends far beyond conventional aggregate delivery. We specialize in projects involving difficult access, confined spaces, challenging elevations, sensitive environments, and situations where traditional construction equipment may be impractical or disruptive.

Using our custom-built pneumatic conveying systems, we can transport and precisely place materials through lightweight piping, often eliminating the need for extensive excavation, large staging areas, or heavy machinery near the placement location.

Our specialized capabilities support a wide range of applications, including:

Innovation With Respect for the Environment

Environmentally Sensitive Technology: More Than Our Name

Our name, EnSenTech, stands for Environmentally Sensitive Technology, and it reflects a principle that has helped guide our company's development.

We believe that moving large quantities of material shouldn't require unnecessary damage to the surrounding property or environment.

Traditional placement methods may involve heavy machinery, extensive site preparation, large equipment access routes, and significant disruption to existing landscaping or sensitive areas.

Our family-engineered pneumatic conveying technology provides an alternative.

By operating from compact staging areas and transporting materials through temporary, lightweight piping, we can deliver aggregate precisely where it's needed while minimizing disturbance to surrounding structures, vegetation, and terrain.

Sensitive Projects

This approach is especially valuable for environmentally sensitive projects involving shoreline restoration, habitat rehabilitation, environmental capping, and other applications where careful material placement is essential.

Award-Winning Work

With a history of award-winning environmental work, we take pride in combining innovative engineering with responsible construction practices.

For us, environmental responsibility isn't an afterthought. It's been built into the purpose of our equipment and the identity of our business.

A Commitment to Craftsmanship & Continuous Improvement

Decades of Experience. Generations of Knowledge.

The equipment we operate today represents decades of hard work, mechanical ingenuity, and lessons learned through real-world applications.

Every improvement, modification, and technological advancement has been driven by the same objective that inspired the original invention: to move materials more efficiently, more precisely, and with less disruption.

Our family's involvement in developing these systems gives us a unique perspective on the work we perform.

We understand that no two job sites are exactly alike. Some projects require transporting aggregate hundreds of feet from the nearest accessible staging area. Others involve moving materials vertically, navigating existing structures, or protecting sensitive landscapes.

These aren't simply obstacles to us. They're the types of challenges our equipment was designed to overcome.

By combining our extensive experience with specialized machinery, we provide dependable solutions for homeowners, general contractors, builders, developers, and environmental professionals throughout Washington State.
